About the Prince of Wales Hotel

The Prince of Wales  Hotel opened in 1852 after the closure of the Rundlestone Inn on the junction of the road between Tavistock and Two Bridges. We have been proudly serving both locals and visitors since that time.

The Prince of Wales and the Dartmoor Brewery.

In 1994, The Prince of Wales became the site where the first pint of Jail Ale was brewed and served. Master brewer Simon Loveless turned what is now our function room into a microbrewery. This famous brew soon outgrew these humble beginnings and the now nationally enjoyed Jail Ail is brewed just up the road at the Dartmoor Brewery (which is well worth a visit).

The Prince of Wales Hotel was completely refurbished after a freak flood in August 2020. It was always the plan to keep the unique features of an old-world Dartmoor Inn and we hope we managed to achieve that balance.
